Our Story

First Meeting

August of 2005

Ruben and Lacy first met in a Psychology course at San Diego State University. At the time Ruben sported shoulder length hair and took notice of Lacy’s bohemian style and long curls. They quickly became classmate buddies.

S’more Rubes

May 2007

Ruben first hit on Lacy by asking her if she would like for him to bring “s’more Rubes” to a bonfire that she was planning.  After a feisty eye roll, Lacy had no choice but to accept. There you have it… their college romance began with s’mores and sweet emails while Lacy traveled.

Growing Up

May 2008

Ruben graduated and moved to Spain and Lacy went off to graduate school in Florida. Although apart, they remained the closest of friends no matter how many miles between them.

June 2013

Following a love-professing phone call from Lacy, Ruben invited her to Jason and Anja’s wedding back in San Diego, CA.  Following three years of separation and a movie-like reunion in the San Diego airport, Ruben and Lacy were back together.  They would spend the next three years in a long-distance relationship (Tallahassee, FL to San Francisco, CA then Houston, TX to Los Angeles, CA, and lastly San Diego, CA to Los Angeles, CA).

September 2016

Ruben took Lacy to the beautiful Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and proposed on their hotel balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  They spent the rest of their engagement weekend at the pool and spa drinking champagne and planning their future.  Ruben and Lacy are now living together in Playa Vista, CA with their obese cat, Ceviche, and loving life together after so many years apart.
